My latest superpower (in my eyes).
I’ve always been starstruck of those girls that can do makeup on the go – literally. And my clumsy uncoordinated self thought I could never. However, when the time came for me to develop and keep this skill, I threw myself into the opportunity and I didn’t look back…
And it came out fab!
The first time I unlocked it was when I was heading to a very early family event. I started off my brows and eyes (shaky hands + eyeliner for a first time train makeup session? absolutely no chance) at home, and whilst on the phone to my boyfriend explaining how I don’t have enough time, he said “take your makeup with you!”. Perhaps it was the no sleep adrenaline that pumped in me but I grabbed my brushes, makeup bag and sanitiser to complete my base makeup on the train. And oh my. It turned out fab. It was such a strangely relaxing process – I had the perfect timer of 30 minutes because of the train ride duration, and such amazing lighting! Albeit it was a tad bit of a struggle when going through the tunnels.
And this is the second time I did my makeup – all from scratch, on the train. Not a single thing done prior, and all in 30 minutes. What really helped me here was my pre plucked brows that had a nice shape to it, and a soft glimmering eyeliner combined with a perfect Morphe smudge brush. This combo will enable you to have a very subtle liner without the requirement of sturdy hands.
My key suggestions for doing makeup on a train –
- Take hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes / tissues for the table you’ll set your makeup on. Be careful and mindful about touching your face whilst on public transport!
- Invest in a handy portable makeup bag – here is an inexpensive one I have from Amazon
- Be aware of how long you have. Set mini timestamps for each process of your makeup, and use the train stops to help you track time
- Cover your clothes well/ create a mini makeup bib. If you’re going somewhere and dressed up already, putting loose powder on in a moving vehicle can be a recipe for disaster. I’m sure you can notice some powder on my clothes from the first time
Try it out! Start off when you have time or can afford to edit your makeup after the train journey. It’s a very handy skill for when you’re pressed for time.
