Did you enjoy the concept of my initial stacked eyeliner look , but weren’t a fan of the colours used? Well, rest assured, you will (hopefully) like this second look where I take the same techniques, but switch the products and colours used. Whilst the first edition of the stacked liner look was fresh and fun with a light dewy base, and coloured highlights, my second edition is more matte, basic and classic. Here I will demonstrate how simple it is to create new fun visuals without bombarding the rainbow on to your face (although there is nothing wrong with that, of course ). I am a big fan of my first stacked liner look, it was glowy and youthful – but I wanted to play around with my stacked liner concept a little bit more. Really exploring what kind of visuals I can create out of it.
Quick disclaimer – this makeup look is very experimental. I am creating very bold looks with elongated liner dragged all the way up to my temples. I understand that this is not how the typical winged eyeliner looks, as it is usually shorter and thiner. If you wanted to try this out you can easily change the length and thickness of it! However, at the end of the day, makeup has no rules.
Anyway, enough of that. Let’s dive into this new edition of remixing the classic winged eyeliner…
With this look I wanted it to be simple and matte, with nothing too extra going on overall. I initially wanted to do straight cut eyebrows, but instead I opted for following the natural shape of my eyebrows in order to fulfil my objective of creating a simple and more natural appearance. I only filled in the ends to enhance the shape, but other than that I lightly concealed and used the 24-hr Benefit Brow Setter to neaten my wild and bushy brows (honestly, this product is a game changer, I don’t know why it took me so long to hop on the Benefit Brow wagon!).
To create the base for my eyelids, I dragged the concealers from my eyebrows down and also did a light sweep of a chocolate brown eyeshadow to warm up the gap between my brows and liner.
I used liquid eyeliner; the NYX white liquid liner, and the Kiko Milano Ultimate Pen in black. To be honest, rather than the contrast of both liners being the focal point of the makeup, it is mainly the white eyeliner. This is because it contrasts the most with the other aspects of the whole face; my dark brows, my lashes, and of course, my dark skin.
White eyeliner is usually used on the waterline to create an effect of having larger eyes, or to change an eye shape. I did not want to mimic this technique by placing the white liner immediately on my upper lash line. In other words, I did not want to put the white liner directly next to the whites of my eyes. Because of this, I went for the black liner to be at the bottom of the stack, in order to create a barrier. This helped to thicken the space between the whites of my eyes, and the white eyeliner (hopefully I’m not confusing you! Refer to the picture above so you can see what I’m talking about x).
The white eyeliner served as a contrasting background for my lashes so they appeared more visibly. I used the Kiko Milano Twist Brush Waterproof mascara, and I’m obsessed. This wand is so precise and enabled an even distribution on each lash. This allowed my lashes to be fluttery and not clumpy, and I did not need to do my usual routine of using a lash comb to rid the clumps!
Despite white being one of the most basic colours out there, it pops and creates a lovely unique visual.
As my eyeliner is the focal point, I kept the rest of my face minimal. I attempted to do this in the last look, but the coloured highlights and the glossy lips did not really make it simple and minimal. Whilst I still adore the visuals created in the first look, I wanted to try to do it properly this time. One way in which I achieved this is by adopting the technique I used in my last post. I blended a gold and brown highlight to create the sun kissed and bronzed look. Also, I found that blending the highlight a little into the bronzer creates a nice transition, making it look subdued and natural (and pretty).
I really enjoyed this makeup look as it allowed me to get out of my comfort zone without compromising the simplicity of it all. I could see myself wearing this white and black liner combo a lot in the future, but probably changing up the size and angle of the wing, depending on the type of event!
Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed this rendition of my stacked eyeliner look!Xx
