HOW I ACHIEVED A STUNNING GLITZY REVERSED EYESHADOW LOOK

After seeing the Dior Autumn-Winter 21 Couture show, I was instantly captivated by the bold and thick under eye liner that Peter Philips created for the models. It was very simplistic (seeing as all the focus was on the clothes) yet striking and unconventional. I have seen this eye makeup look before, where it seems as though the eyeshadow is reversed with it being on the bottom lid rather than the top. I have even unconsciously added it in some of my previous makeup looks! However, after seeing what type of visuals can be achieved with this technique, I wanted to play around with my liners and dabble in some palettes to discover the kind of looks I can end up with.

Peter Philips, the Dior Image Director and the man responsible for these stunning backstage looks, stated that they were looking at which shades of blue to do, and that they eventually went for a “really deep midnight blue”. He then said that he created “a very intense graphic elegant punky eye”, and kept the rest of the face simple and natural, using Dior products of course.

Although I like the makeup look from Dior’s latest couture show, I just knew that if I tried to do exactly that, it wouldn’t suit me, nor would I be able to do it as well as he did. So, I essentially switched it all up.

Whilst the inspiration look is quite heavy and intense, I wanted to create a sweet glam and glitzy face; more playful and light rather than punky and grungy. I used a bright pinkish purple instead of heavier shades.

To get my desired look, I still followed the same method as Philips: he started off with a natural black eyeliner to serve as the base, and then packed blue eyeshadow on top of it to get an intense shade. Instead of this, I used my beloved Barry M Eyeliner Pencil in the shade purple to create the shape (really just a thick line rather than a polished shape), and then I packed on glittery shades of purple from two different palettes: the Morphe 9J ‘Just A Crush’ palette and the ABH Norvina palette (obsessed with this palette!). I dampened the brush lightly so that it could be more pigmented and I’d get a clearer *glittery glitzy* effect.

For my base, I used a mix of rose gold and purple highlight to bring more colour to my face. I like to use a coloured highlight because I feel as though it doubles as a blush (as mentioned in my everyday makeup look post). The specks of coloured glitter also helped me get the playful glam look I wanted. I then went in with the Fenty Sun Stalk’r bronzer in Mocha Mami to avoid creating harsh contour lines and keep to the light and sweet look. To finish off I used my fave lipgloss, Getglosst in Butterfly Dome, and set my face with the Morphe Continuous Setting Mist (I didn’t use any lip liner because I wanted super clear glossy lips)!

Okay, now that that mini breakdown is over, here is how it turned out!

BIG Disclaimer. I am not Peter Philips. Nowhere near his level, but I’m sure you knew that already! 🙂 Hope you enjoy!

I really enjoyed this makeup look and I hope you try it out too! Thank you for reading and I’ll see you in my next post!xx
