HOW I ACHIEVED MY DISCO INSPIRED 20TH BIRTHDAY LOOK!

Entering into my second decade! Usually for my birthday I just get cake, order food and stay home. I hardly dress up – maybe I’d wear a new top I bought, and make myself look somewhat decent with a little bit of makeup (I believed I’d be doing a full face of makeup, when really I was no where close to haha). But this year I said to myself, “Desola, you’re turning 20… put in a little more effort, celebrate how far you’ve come”. SO I decided RIGHT OKAY lets go full out with the glam true XDF style! I decided to look like an ✯ultra cosmic girl✯- a full on shiny disco ball. This was so new for me so Ive decided to share it with you! Also, its been a while since I have done a polished classic glam face…

So! As I said, I wanted to look like a full on walking disco ball. I don’t know about you, but I’m an absolute sucker for all things glittery and shimmery. When I saw this silvery plisse set from Zara it was an absolute no brainer. Typically the New Years season always call for glitter and shiny looks, but I know I’ll be rinsing these pieces in all the seasons this year.

I put my hair up into a high pony to show off the jewellery. I do love the look of having your hair down, a little curly and messy, whilst wearing long earrings. It sounds weird, I know, but it is really a pretty visual and creates an alluring vibe. The sparkles are hidden and shines through the hair all mysteriously, when you move a subtle glimmer shines through. But as I said, I literally wanted to be a walking star, so I ensured I made all the sparkles clearly show. Alsoo, I got a new piercing (done in Astrid and Miyu’s Shoreditch branch. 10/10, amazing vibes and the loveliest piercer) and I was excited to try out the curated earring stack look!

For more starry touches I wore a star necklace and ring, and I paired this with a shiny silver hard clutch bag. If you’ve been a reader for a while then you’d know exactly where my bag is from. For the ones that have no clue, its from my mother! She is my ultimate handbag supplier, always pulling out these vintage gems! Out of nowhere she gives me this clutch and i know immediately its for this outfit. The most satisfying thing ever is when you find the most random gorgeous pieces and it all perfectly comes together.

The same thing with these boots! Ive always wanted white boots – specifically white cowboy boots, but I’d never found the perfect pair, and eventually started to forget about them. But when I came across these in the Zara sale (moment of silence for all the items that were in the basket but went out of stock), I immediately bought them. I know they aren’t necessarily cowboy boots, but they just called out to me (I sound crazy as if I literally communicate with clothes and shoes – life of a fashion blogger!). I really had no clue what I was going to style it with, but that was the fun part. I am not endorsing impulse purchasing, but for me these boots were a God send and I’m so excited to throw them in outfits this year. Anyway, this is another random piece that fit the look perfectly. It screams disco vibes with its platforms, and just made the whole look!

thought my stance in this pic was a little funny haha so serious

Right, let’s get into the makeup! I wanted a classic polished full glam for this look. I didn’t want too much sparkles and glitter for that was already all over my outfit. I already felt way out of my comfort zone for deciding to look like a walking disco ball, and I didn’t want to go overboard and look like a star threw up on my face.

I absolutely love doing my makeup when I have my hair in a ponytail style – my face gets so snatched! It is just so much easier to apply bronzer and create a fleeky eyeliner (apologies for using 2010s terminology – it just describes what I mean perfectly!). For my base I used my staple Maybelline foundation, and used my basic LA Pro Girl concealer for highlight. I’ve been using fawn ever since I was 15, it has not failed me once. Maybe it is time for me to try something else this year? Ah, got to love the new year – it’s the best excuse to try something new!

I went heavy with the contour, of course. It’s really easy for me to do a light full face of makeup. I’ve been doing it so often I almost forgot what an actual full classic glam face looked like for me. I went in lightly with drops of my Joeur concealer, and buffed it heavily with lots of mocha mami. I did this with my favourite trick of layering my setting spray – so in-between the layers of makeup I saturated (okay that’s a little dramatic, I only saturated my face at the very end) my face with Morphe continuous setting spray. this enabled a lovely airbrush effect. I don’t set my concealer with powder, so this hack is a go to for me.

I went over with a touch of gold/ bronzed highlight just to make my skin tone look more rich – an absolute must in winter. I feel as though I’ve strayed away from blush a lot recently on this website, but no worries, I sense a girly sweet glam makeup look on the horizon, coming to the blog soon! 🙂

I’m usually quite lazy when it comes to my eyebrows. It’s usually too much of a hassle for me to make them look all polished and fancy – I always just fill in lightly and slap concealer on the ends of it so it doesn’t look too crazy. However this time I forced myself (yay me!) to conceal and create a bit of an arched shape instead of going for my go to straight look. I think the brows are really what sets and gives the makeup its vibe. By this I mean if you opt for a more feathery brow, despite having a full face of makeup, you’ll ultimately end up with a more fresh and youthful vibe. If you go for a more perfected arch, then you’ll get a more classic clean polished look. And if you have perfect straight brows, well then you’re giving 2000s supermodel vibes.

Because I went for a classic simple matte look, I wanted my eyes to pop and look a little sparkly. I used shade ‘passion’ from the ABH Norvina palette (my ride or die palette) as a base, and went on top with shade ‘base’, and a light pale champagne shimmer from the Morphe 9D palette. I did this to provide extra help for the contrast – giving the base a darker shade, instead of using concealer so it can pop better. Also, because I wanted more of the light shade to show, I started my eyeliner from the end of my eye rather than creating a thick line across. I went in with light dots underneath my eye for literally no reason – I just thought it’d look cool. I used the Pat McGrath liner and mascara! Auntie Pat’s mascara is the BEST for fluttery lashes. Falsies who?

Of course, I chose a cake topper to match my look. I wanted to get the cake to also, but I could not resist this lotus biscoff cake ! It was to die for! Days later and I’m experiencing heavy withdrawal symptoms from it ! Anyway, apologies for digressing. Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed the breakdown of my 20th disco glam style birthday look!
