It seems as if all the *good* things of the early 2000s fashion scene have made a comeback into today’s trends. This Y2K wave has seemed to make clothes more exciting again; slowly fading away are the minimalistic tones and the obsessions of loungewear. The fun fresh combinations that were defined in the 2000s era has started to resurface in the scene today, making outfits more unique, with unusual patterns and combinations!
One concern people may have is how can they get involved with this whilst keeping true to the items they have in their wardrobes already?
A concern you may have is how can you get involved without neglecting the items you already have? Well, there is no need to throw away clothes and reconstruct your entire closet to revolve around this trend. Here I hope to show you how simple it can be incorporating a fun piece of clothing into an outfit full of wardrobe basics and staples. Although I may not be dressing up in bright outfits like a Paris Hilton BFF contestant, my aim is to explore how a fun zebra pattern can look great in different contexts.
I instinctively wanted to pair this top with a mini skirt. The lace of the cami felt quite playful, and I feel as though it shares the same characteristics as the mini skirt. I did choose to wear a wrap body-con style skirt hoping it would make the fit appear more dressed up and less on the casual side.
To contribute to its attributes, I added a slightly frilled cardigan on the top.
Whilst a cardigan would be nicer for warmer days, wearing a denim jacket instead can transform the entire look –
This long oversized denim jacket covers the whole outfit, making the zebra pattern pop through. Ironically it captures more attention to the top. Rather than it already being out for show, it catches a person’s eye better as it heavily contrasts with the mood of the long black denim.
A denim jacket is a much loved wardrobe staple as you can play around with it so easily. Here I am wearing another denim jacket, but this one is a bit more cropped.
…and of course, you can style this to be fun and casual – with jeans!
The jewellery worn has stayed consistent in these looks. I created this combination inspired by the characteristics of the top and skirt, and also by the 2000s vibes!
Thank you for reading! I hope this has helped in some way!xx
