ACHIEVING THE DEWY MAKEUP LOOK READY FOR SUMMER!

Glowy skin, glossy lips with fluttery lashes! The ultimate summer vibe. If you have read my previous post then you would have already seen this makeup look. I decided to create a post focused on this because I used some new products and tried a new method!

The last time I wore strip lashes was in December 2020. I decided to take a long break from lashes after I had a bad experience from individual lashes. I started taking care of my natural lashes more and used mascara in all my makeup looks. Whilst I love the way my natural lashes look, and enjoy wearing mascara, sometimes I just want to switch it up a little bit. Another thing I did differently was change up how I do my makeup base; I no longer went crazy with bright highlight and achieved a very natural and skin like finish that suited my complexion better.

To start this makeup breakdown, let’s talk about the eyes and brows! I essentially created an updated version of the brows in My Everyday Makeup Look post – here you can see they still have the thin shape, but are now a little more fuller. This is because I have refrained from over-plucking my eyebrows (a struggle I have now conquered), and I used the Benefit Brow Setter to make the hairs stay in place. Honestly, my eyebrows are somewhat different with each makeup look because they are quite unruly – they have a mind of its own. I like this brow look because I was able to achieve my favourite brow shape without compromising the fullness of my brows, like I have done previously.

For the eyes, I simply used the shade ‘Passion’ in the ABH Norvina palette (my favourite eyeshadow palette!). I did not use any black eyeliner on my upper lash line considering how I was already wearing falsies, but I did wear liner on my bottom lash line. I went for blue eyeliner to match with the outfit I was wearing, however it did not give me my desired results. I used the Barry M Bold Waterproof in Oasis Blue, and I had expected it to give me a lovely shimmery finish, just as the same eyeliner in the shade ‘Purple’ does. I wanted a pop of colour and to incorporate a different texture, but all I got was the pop colour. The first time I put it on I noticed how it hardly had a creamy formula, and so it didn’t blend easily on my lower lid. I had to go over it with a smudge brush, and use the shade ‘Soul’ in the Norvina Palette on my bottom and upper lid in order to prevent the liner from seeming so out of place. I know that it is not specifically marketed as being creamy and shimmery, but the purple version of this liner is exactly that so I assumed that all shades of the liner would be.

Despite this slight hiccup in the Oasis Blue shade of the Barry M Bold Waterproof eyeliner, it is still a fab product that serves its primary purpose. Also, it did not ruin my overall makeup look in the slightest!

As for the lashes, they are ultra soft, fluffy and amazing! I am wearing the Sapphire lash from Rhelashes. I know the image above is a slip of me but I just wanted to include a side profile image so you can see how nicely they curve up! This is a feature that many false eyelash brands fail to deliver on (… *coughs* Eylure.). These are nice for that full dramatic look, but they are like ‘Demi wispy’ lashes – a little bit natural. It is a great lash choice if you’re like me and don’t like your lashes to be too heavy, but would like to get your money’s worth. If I were to buy lashes, I’m not getting natural thin lashes because for me personally there is no point – I could just use mascara with a micro wand. I will only really wear lashes if I want my eyes to look a little darker, and if I’m going for a more glam glam look. These Sapphire lashes from Rhelashes are my new go to ~ they are reusable and great quality! Also, the lashes have quite a thick band meaning you don’t need any black eyeliner! Not to mention a thick band makes it a lot easier to clean.

As mentioned at the start of this post, I made some minor changes to how I did my base and I am obsessed with the outcome. Not going to tell a lie, I did do this all without realising. At the end I felt as though something was a little bit off – it didn’t resemble my usual base. I was thinking something is missing, but in reality, I had just unlocked a new method to my makeup routine that I had been lacking all my life (okay, I only really started wearing makeup at 16, so I’ve been lacking this method for three years).

Okay go grab yourself of cup of tea because I am about to dive into how I got this base. I had done my brows and eyes, and primed normally with the Benefit Pore-fessional Primer around my nose and under my eyes. I then used a small amount of my foundation, put it in small spots on my face, and then – I sprayed my face with the Morphe Luminous Setting Spray before I blended my foundation out. This setting spray is so good. I had used it once before in my previous beauty post, but it was only in this makeup look that I actually used it properly. After I blended out my foundation with a disposable sponge (we don’t use beauty blenders around ‘ere , i.e. on this website), I went in with my liquid contour – Joeur Essential High Coverage Concealer in the shade ‘Ebony’. This shade is just *chef’s kiss* beautiful. I am so glad I’ve found a dark rich tone that works perfectly for me (I do like dark contour and bronzer). I blended this out with a different disposable sponge, and then I blended it out with a powder brush. There was no product on this powder brush as I just wanted it to slightly blend without lifting product. I put my highlight on last, whilst everything else has already been blended. At first I put it on in small spots, then I used the setting spray for the second time and I blended it out with the disposable sponge I used for my foundation. This time, I didn’t wait a little while for the highlight to dry, and I made it more blend-able by spraying my face for a second time. By using the foundation sponge over my highlight, it all mixed in and worked with my complexion well – there were no harsh bright patches on my face, it was a nice subtle transition instead.

The Morphe Luminous setting spray is a game changer! I feel like you can really get the most out of it when you use it in between the steps in your makeup, blending it in rather than just using one layer at the very end. You can really lock in its essence and benefit more from all it has to offer by working it into your base. This gave me such a lovely and dewy skin-like finish.

Contributing to the dewiness of the makeup, I smothered my lips with Getglosst lipgloss in ‘Loco’. The formula of this lipgloss is amazing! This is not the first time I’ve mentioned this lipgloss in a beauty post, and there is a reason for its frequent reoccurrence!

Thank you for reading this hefty makeup breakdown! I hope to share more of these beauty posts with you!Xx
