A MEGA REVIEW OF THE RESORT 24 COLLECTIONS!

My favourite brands (non exhaustive list!) have finally all released their Resort 2024 collections, and I couldn’t be happier! So many playful concepts/ideas that truly echo and embody the vibes of summer. Also such a lovely variety of tones and textures that I can’t wait to use as inspiration for my own creations. Right, let me not bore you too much with an intro and dive straight in!

DAVID KOMA

The top collection for me just has to be David Koma’s. I adore how he has taken the ‘wet look’ to the next level by incorporating a fish motif! Done in a tasteful way, this element does not scream tacky nor unclassy. In one of the dresses you may even need to do a double take before you realise the stunning jewels have been delicately etched across the dress into the shape of a koi fish! After taking inspiration from Aphrodite – the greek goddess who is also connected to the influence of water – Koma successfully showed us all the possibilities of combining evening wear, heavy biker jackets, thick scarves and metallics, with the softness of the sea; all it’s fresh pale and aqua tones, mermaid like sequins and graceful fluidity. A very *quite literally* refreshing collection!

CHRISTOPHER KANE

Coming just after Koma’s collection for me is Christopher Kane’s. The alluring, sensual and soft glamour is unmistakably present, making this Resort 24 collection beautiful and intoxicating. Rather than just being presented with basic crushed velvet dresses and bows, Kane gifts us with so much more. A top favourite music genre of mine can be noted – the dreamy delicate pop 80s New Wave of the 80s vibe blends perfectly with this collection thanks to the blurs and hazy unfocused images. Matching with the velvets and furs that have been so carefully embedded in his designs, it amplifies this luxurious and simplistic elegance he is promoting.

DIESEL

Ever since the media decided to brand Diesel as being in its ‘comeback era’ in early 2022, they have consistently created fun and exciting new wearable pieces. Their Resort 24 collection is certainly no different, as they came up with a bright and saturated colour palette for mini dresses, midi skirts and crops. In spite of doing so, they have kept their brand identity consistent in unique ways, such as using their notable ‘D’ as clasps for belts or embellished on boots, and even the full brand name as anklets or waist chains! The brand’s playfulness extends to their bags also, creating innovative shoulder bags and mini bags (will happily clear my shelf for these!). Another unforgettable and eye-catching collection produced by Diesel.

BLUMARINE

Of course, next we have Blumarine. For me, Diesel and Blumarine scream fun and innovative. They have both been noted as key influential brands within the rise of the Y2K trends in their own ways. However, as Brognano stated how he believes Y2K is “a bit passe”, he certainly has not held back from keeping the excitement it carried. Ultra mini dresses, micro skirts and jewelled belts stayed as they were reimagined in a variety of concepts. For this season, Blumarine play around with bright colour schemes and heavy denims, balancing them out with oversized bows, laced dresses and soft satins. Heavy chrome jewellery took the shape of delicate roses, military shade greens used for two layered flowery mini dresses. Bright blue and shocking white double denims tied into draping bows! The list goes on, and I could go on and on too. Blumarine always know how to make it work.

BALMAIN

Olivier Roustieng for Balmain successfully brings a timeless elegance and class to the collections, every time without fail. I personally adored this collection because of the sophistication it holds evident in its structured and padded yet feminine blouses, smooth monochrome suits and its exaggerated ruche peplum skirts. Everything piece of this collection is structured and tailored beautifully, mirroring the boldness embedded in the brand’s DNA.

GIAMBATTISTA VALLI

For Giambattista Valli’s Resort collection, I couldn’t help but add these 4 on to the post too! Whenever I think of what the Resort collection actually is, I perceive it to be the mini capsule collection brands make for customers to take on a mini summery getaway. These outfits make me think of a guest at a destination wedding! These outfits exude class and easy glam, to be paired with light dewy makeup with cream sheer blushes, and accessorised with jewelled slip on heels and cool shades thrown on!

STELLA MCCARTNEY

Stella McCartney also makes the post with her easy going and practical pieces for this season. The main thing that caught my eye (and something I would like to have in my wardrobe as soon as possible) is the mini bright orange dress! The delicate floral cut outs have totally stolen my heart. A classy sophisticated resort collection easy to dress up or down in.

ISABEL MARANT

Isabel Marant epitomises the effortlessly cool French look. Her collection, similar to McCartney’s, also makes the list, as she serves up an ultra laid back look with fun pieces like the textured printed skirts that would make a great addition to your summer wardrobe. The pairing of heavy glamorous earrings with blacked out shades and a fresh glowy skin base is a ‘must do’ combination to embody the cool off duty look!

ALESSANDRA RICH

Alessandra Rich’s Resort 24 collection is so fabulously dark and mysterious, whilst maintaining the glamorous elegant pieces that are synonymous with the brand name. Shot in low lit lighting, these creations made in velvet, lace and satin are to die for. Adorned with deep cut outs and embellished bug brooches, Rich’s collection truly echoes the noir vibe she represents her creations across the brand. The Alessandra Rich woman is an alluring female of mystery.

ANNA SUI

Anna Sui created beautiful and whimsical pieces for her Resort 24 collection. With gorgeous and vibrant crushed velvets, eye-catching argyle like patterns, juicy florals adorned on party dresses and 70s style pieces, I would happily create the space for this collection to be in my wardrobe. Sui ensures each of her creations are decorated in sequins, careful embroidery, or fur trims. Even down to the textures she places detail in them, such as the embossed rings in the baby blue wide leg trousers! A lovely and memorable collection perfect for summer.
